Description
Soft wax is a sealing wax specially developed for sealing bottles.
When melted, it is slightly softer and thinner than the sealing waxes with item numbers 3272–3286, and once applied, its softness is somewhere between cheese wax and those waxes. Its thinner consistency when melted means it can be applied in a thinner layer. This wax can be peeled off bottles with your fingers, whereas you need a knife to remove the other type of sealing wax.
As a rule of thumb, you can seal roughly twice as many bottles with soft wax as with the other type of sealing wax, because it is runnier when melted and goes further. However, if you want a thick layer of wax, use wax as a decorative feature on your bottles, or your bottles might get a few knocks before they reach the customer's table, it's best to use the other type of wax rather than soft wax.
Directions: This product is only sold in aluminium trays. You therefore need to place the whole block in a heavy-based, Teflon-coated pan or in a container in a water bath at 100 °C to melt the amount you need. If you don't want to melt the whole block, you can lift out the unmelted part once enough has melted. Dip the necks of the bottles in the wax and then leave them to dry.
Please note: This wax melts at around 75 °C but should be heated to around 100 °C to achieve the ideal runny consistency before the bottles are dipped. This leaves a suitable layer of glossy wax on the neck of the bottle. Melted wax that hasn't been used can be reheated.
This wax is easy to use, unlike some other types of wax that have to be heated to 200 °C in an oil bath to melt.
The individual colours can be mixed if you want a different shade from those in the Dansk Hjemmeproduktion range.
